ccMixter
ccMixter (ccmixter.org) is a very large, 20-year-old audio library and remix community. It is one of the two main platforms that make up the Mixterverse History|Mixterverse.
Overview
ccMixter hosts thousands of Creative Commons-licensed audio tracks — from a cappellas and instrumentals to full remixes and sample packs. Artists upload source material that others can freely use, remix, and build upon.
How It Works
- Uploads — Artists share stems, a cappellas, samples, and instrumentals
- Remixes — Other artists create remixes using the uploaded material
- Attribution — All works are linked, creating a web of creative collaboration
- Licensing — Most works use Creative Commons licenses, enabling legal reuse
Community
The community is run by volunteers and sustained through donations, Patreon subscriptions, and license sales for commercial use.
